How I Overcame My Fears and Became A Home Health Aide

Introduction

I am a home health aide. I love my job, and, looking back on it now, would never have wanted to do anything else with my life.

But just like every other person in the world had challenges that they needed dealing with at some point or another – I was no exception!

I am an expert in my field and I’ve worked hard for it. It took me a while to gather the training, passed the competency test in , and put in some serious work before finally achieving where I’m today.

And when I look back at the person who was once me, so many things are different now…

Why a home health aide?

When people hear what I do for a living, they usually ask “How did you become a HHA?”

The answer is actually not very straightforward because, while there were many factors that contributed to this career path (like the hours), one important factor was self-confidence in myself as well as education on how to be a home health aide.

Training in home health aide skills is surprisingly not offered through many colleges or universities. And when I did find a training program, it was expensive and the hours were inconsistent with my work schedule (I also had to take care of myself during this time as well).

It took me about a year to finally start taking classes that could lead up to competency testing for HHA certification. I wish I had not wasted that much time.

But even before the training, there was a looming issue that stalled me for a while and I almost never became a home health aide.

My fear

It was my lack of knowledge about the human body!

I know what you’re thinking…

It sounds so silly but it was a real fear.

How could I be expected to take care of people in their homes yet I did not know how the body works, where the kidney it, what are the veins in an arm, what is a pule, etc.

I felt such fear about not knowing anything about the human body. It was almost paralyzing!

How could I even think about being a home health aide if I did not know what the heck was going on inside of someone’s body?

I almost gave up because of this fear. Thankfully, I learned that there are other ways to be an HHA and still maintain my integrity without having to become proficient in anatomy!

But then something amazing happened… I started thinking outside of the box by networking with other people who got home health aide jobs, and things got easier!

Problem: The problem is that caregiver professionals need to know a lot of medical and human anatomy information. But there are so many courses and books out there, it’s hard to find what you really need.
Agitate: You can’t afford to spend thousands of dollars on books and courses that may not be relevant to being a home health aide of certified nursing assistant.
Solution: This is the best-selling medical illustrated guide available in the market today! It covers all the aspects of human anatomy and physiology in an easy-to-understand manner, with lots of illustrations and photos!

What I learned!

That’s when I realized there is no need to invest in expensive courses or textbooks when all you really want is a comprehensive guide on human anatomy!

Save time, money and energy by getting this today.

And the best part is…

You can study at your own pace and cover the topics you need to learn.

You will understand medical terminology more clearly – and that’s exactly what happened to me!

I looked into this and, must be honest, did not read every detail but enough that I gained the confidence in the human body and how it works.

The solution is simple: the course takes you through the entire process of human anatomy, starting with the bones in our feet all the way up to organs like our liver and heart!

I can’t tell you how excited I was when this breakthrough happened for me – but it’s not just about being a HHA anymore… now I’m also a family “expert” on medical terms that are essential to my job and every other day life!

And, if nothing else, having confidence in understanding what people are talking about at work or out socially makes things easier too. You’ll be able to jump into conversations without being afraid of sounding “stupid”.

One last thought on this: in addition, they provide support through email, live chat and phone calls. And they also offer discounts from 20% – 30%.

In the end (well right now!), I learned more about the human body even before my home health aide training which helped me earn more money and got me a promotion within six months of starting with my agency – I even recommended the human anatomy course to the other HHA’s.

In summary, don’t let anything or anyone prevent you from becoming a HHA. If you’re not sure about what to do, just follow your heart.
